How long is the notice period for tenants?

Tenants can always give ordinary notice with a three-month period — regardless of how long the tenancy has already lasted (§ 573c para. 1 BGB).

How does the period increase for the landlord?

For the landlord, the period increases to six months after five years and to nine months after eight years.

By when must the notice arrive?

The notice must be received by the third business day of a month for that month to count towards the period. Saturdays do not count as a business day here.
