How does a stepped rent work?
With a stepped rent (Staffelmiete), the rent is agreed in advance in fixed steps for set periods. Each amount or increase step must be stated in the contract.
What minimum gap applies between steps?
At least one year must lie between two steps (§ 557a para. 2 BGB). A shorter gap makes the stepped-rent agreement invalid.
