Frequently asked questions
What is the rent-increase cap?
The rent may rise by no more than 20% over three years (§ 558 para. 3 BGB). In areas with a tight housing market, a reduced limit of 15% applies.
Does the cap apply on top of the customary local reference rent?
Yes. Even if the customary local reference rent is higher, the cap limits the permitted increase within three years.
